MJ COLE, COKI, LOEFAH, ZED BIAS - ROXANNE - SAT 24TH OCT
Big tingz, The Operatives and Too Much! have joined forces to bring you another massive lineup!!!!
MJ COLE, COKI, LOEFAH, ZED BIAS - ROXANNE - SAT 24TH OCT
Local support from Shikung, Spin Fx, Nam, JPS, Same O, Fooishbar, AC23, L-J, Dust, Deviant, Paul Master, Citizen.Com & Riz-One.
Loefah
Loefah is without a doubt a bastion of dubstep. His contributions to the DMZ imprint could be considered key moments in the evolution of the genre; whilst his remixes for Skream (on Tempa) and his recent Tectonic outing only serve to enforce this belief.
Unlike other producers, Loefah's bass excursions don't venture into the wibbly wobbly sub-aquatic realms. Instead they attempt to shatter the listener's rib cage with frequencies that could be used by French riot police.
Coki (Digital Mystikz)
Coki is one part of Digital Mystikz, a dubstep production duo '96 the other half being Mala '96 from the South London suburb of Norwood. Coki's renowned for his backseat low profile persona and his wielding of massive bassiness. Along with Loefah, Coki and Mala operate the DMZ record label and host the influential bimonthly nightclub DMZ, held at the Mass club complex in Brixton, London. Their song "Anti War Dub" appeared in the 2006 film "Children of Men," although it wasn't included in the soundtrack.
MJ Cole
After a classical training at The Royal College of Music, MJ Cole’s career began with a job as tape op with drum’n’bass label SOUR. After slogging his way up to the position of engineer, he fell in love with the UK garage sound in the middle of 1996 while working on Ramsey & Fen’s 2-step remixes for Kym Mazelle.
Cole’s first solo manoeuvre, the classic ‘Sincere’ finally found root with AM:PM and became one of the first garage records to crack the UK’s Top 40. Two years after the single’s success he signed to Gilles Peterson’s label Talkin’ Loud and released ‘Sincere’ the album. This earned him significant notoriety spawning two Top 15 singles, a prestigious Mercury Music Prize nomination and a silver disc for UK sales in excess of 60,000 copies. That album also established MJ Cole internationally as an in demand DJ and remixer, in particular his Jill Scott
remix is a classic.
Whilst his work from the Talking Loud era is more familiar to most, MJ Cole is in demand more as a DJ now than ever before, appearing regularly at
Dubstep, Garage, House, Funky and Bassline parties. The records he's making and playing are reflective of this variety of current influences, representing both where he's come from and where that fits with new underground music. Having recently remixed Dan Black and with a stream of new dance-floor singles to come on his own Prolific label over the next 6 months, 2009 looks to be an exciting year for MJ Cole.
Zed Bias
Dave Jones is Zed Bias ' hailing from Manchester and deep within the UK dance music scene, Zed has been causing a stir since the mid-90s as a globetrotting DJ, pioneering producer, label chief, re-mixer and Jedi master of everything soulful.
As an artist he gained widespread recognition in 2001 when he was nominated for 'Best Garage Act' at the MOBO awards. His intuitive ability to work and collaborate on various levels and across many genres remains in great demand from labels and artists all over the world, but the calibre of his own writing and production cannot be overlooked. From breaks, to dubstep, to DnB, this man is prolific and has had a slew of release on labels abound.
