Artist Bio’s
The Modernist [LIVE]
Under a multitude of monikers including Burger Industries, Triola, the Bionaut and the Modernist, Jorg Burger has established himself as one of the figureheads of Cologne's influential minimalist techno scene.
In late 2005 the Kompakt Studios were built and since then Burger´s working alongside Reinhard & Wolfgang Voigt, Jürgen Paape, Michael Mayer & Superpitcher. His latest album-release is a mix & mash up-cd for Stefan Struever´s new label faith recordings, called: collectors series pt.1 -The Modernist, released in august 2006.
In december 2006 Echo Club, Burger´s new collaboration with Reinhard Voigt released its first 12" : Welcome to Echo Club on Kompakt.
Also in spring 2007, Burger/Ink re-united under the new name Burger/Voigt - 11 years after Las Vegas.
Their first releases are Bring Trance back and Roter Platz on Kompakt.
Burger´s latest solo-releases ( also the first full releases under his own name) are Jörg Burger-Polyform 1 & 2 on the K2 label.
Popnoname [LIVE]
POPNONAME aka JENS-UWE BEYER was born on the little island Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea. Now he lives in Cologne. Apart from his regular releases on KOMPAKT's Pop Ambient series, he has had a number of 12" on Cologne-based labels, among others FIRM and ITALIC. His debut album WHITE ALBUM (ITALIC) was released in 2007, and got loads of positive reviews from the German and international press.
Currently being released is his new album SURROUNDED BY WEATHER along with two 12" remix maxis and a bonus ep also on ITALIC. He recently did two remixes for the German band "Klee" (Universal) following a couple of remixes and releases on different labels.
Coma (GER)
Coma are Marius Bubat and Georg Conrad, both in their midtwenties. They are the long awaited rush of fresh air in the streets of cologne and in the clubs worldwide. They combine pop and rave, techno and rock in a very unique, subtile and elegant way. Coma are new rave and old-school techno, 80s pop and 2k-modernity in a deep hug. Coma gives the right answer to the wrong hypes and new influences, voices and feelings to electronic dance music from Germany. Their highly acclaimed breakthrough was in November 2007 @ Total Confusion in Cologne where they convinced with a brilliant live show between two DJ-Sets. It was meant to be one of the best live gigs ever since the party started in July 1998. (Tobias Thomas, February 2008)Their debut 12“ on Firm (Kompakt) is played on heavy rotation by German Techno DJs like Tobias Thomas, Sascha Funke and Superpitcher. Live on stage Marius and Georg appear with laptop, guitar, synthesizer and microphone. They found their individual way to break the barriers between club culture and live concerts, techno and pop. With their likeable naive perfomance they know intuitionally how to make people leave with a smile on their faces.
Kaito (JAP) [LIVE]
KAITO was a 2001 initiative, under which he released "Beautiful Day", "Everlasting", "Awakening", the albums "Special Life", "Special Love" and "Soul of Heart" on the German KOMPAKT Records. At that same period he started a new deep slow house project called "TREAD" with the assistance of graphic designer Takehiko Kitahara and so far "TREAD" has released 5 albums from Japanese "Norm".In 2003 he released under the alias "32 PROJECT" the "Root of World" EP on the highly acclaimed label , IBADAN Records.
He continues giving live performances as Tread and Kaito, but also continues DJing, where he uses his name Hiroshi Watanabe, throughout all popular Japanese clubs. In 2002, he gave a fantastic performance at the Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona, at Vision in Switzerland and at Popkomm in Cologne, Germany. Moreover, the talented Mr. Watanabe has also made music for films, he's composed television jingles as well as music for theatre plays, fashion shows and more.
Deekline (UK)
Deekline started collecting records as a youngster, inspired by funk and electro, before becoming interested in hardcore and jungle. His first release was the immense Dont Smoke (Da Reefer), a bass-heavy, two-stepping beat monster with the catchiest vocal line ever it was the first record put out on the newly-formed Rat Records, an imprint which still continues to churn out top-quality releases at the forefront of breaks and booty bass.
Further tracks with legends like Arthur Baker and Rennie Pilgrem and other groundbreaking producers like Donna Dee and Freq Nasty sealed Deeklines reputation as a leading light in the UK dance music scene a reputation helped along by the chart success of Dont Smoke, which went to number 11 in the charts, and which led to Wu Tang Clan-member and twisted genius Ol Dirty Bastard asking for an official remix of his track Want Your Money.
At the same time, Deekline was livening up breaks in the UK, shaking up the sedentary nu-skool scene and twisting out the fattest basslines in the club nights he put together - Breakbeat Connection and Thursday Night Throwdown, both of which are still among the best and most exciting nights out to be had in the capital.
Skool Of Thought
Living between the UK and Australia, Skool Of Thought is the owner and label manager behind the award winning Against The Grain & SuperCharged Music record labels - home to the likes of the Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, Splitloop, Ed Solo and of course Skool Of Thought. He is the guy responsible for the enormous Groove Armada 'Superstylin' and Freestylers v Pendulum 'Painkiller' breaks remixes. He has appeared on the front cover of 3D magazine in Australia, described by IDJ magazine as 'an underrated genius' and recognized by DJ magazine as helping form the 'nu skool breaks' scene. He has produced countless breakbeat monsters over the years including Heavyweight Breaks Volumes 1 & 3, Breakspoll 3, numerous 12" singles and is currently celebrating the success of his debut artist album with Ed Solo entitled 'Random Acts Of Kindness'. To top it all off he has just launched a third label called 'Cool & Deadly' with Tayo. Phew! Time to take a lesson from Skool...
Klaus ‘Heavy Weight’ Hill
This year has Klaus Hil’s album in Australia with the Maximum Bass series, now on volume 3 and selling over 150,000 copies as well as being called upon by dance music legend Felix Da House Cat to engineering and programming for his new album. Top this up with numerous hit productions and being voted in the top 30 breaks producers in the world and you can see that 2009 has been nothing short of extraordinary for the biggest man in breakbeat.
Originally from London, Klaus spent four years as a resident at the infamous The End club before making the move to Sydney, Australia in 2003. His move to what many call “the breakbeat capital of the world” lead to residencies at Sydney’s HOME, Hobart’s HALO and the Embassy, Townsville. It also enabled him to focus more on the production side of dance music putting out tracks for labels such as Distinctive, Botchit & Scarper, TCR and Ministry Of Sound and remixes for James Lavelle’s UNKLE project, Jakatta, DJ Sneak, Atomic Hooligan and the Beastie Boys.
Klaus heavyweight Hill makes his second appearance at Club Bon Bon On December 26th, just in time to hit the Holiday Season. Appearing as “Santa” Klaus Hill, he surely have enough beats in his bag for all-even for the naughtiest of Shanghai party goers.
Chris Fortier [USA]
Chris Fortier is a mad ****. While many people may claim to know Chris’ sound, with their focus on continually labeling him one thing or another, Chris is equally as focused on his efforts to push back the musical boundaries. It is testament to the man that he continues to develop his sound and musical direction, after all, as the man says himself “I just like to play good underground music, I don’t limit myself.”
It is artists such as Chris Fortier who are inextricably linked to the underground dance music scene that are the genuinely pushing the sound forward. Chris’ determination to continue to push the envelope can be seen in all aspects of his career. Proof of this can be found on his recent triple CD compilation Balance and his recent solo production under the 40oz moniker and his stellar debut artist album As Long As The Moment Exits.
Majik Johnson [NZ]
In between a hefty cycling and fishing schedule, Magik joined Darren Emerson’s Underwater roster, and then came the launch of his new digital label Magiktrax, distributed by NRK Music. Other releases of late have included ‘Scanning For Viruses’ on Jesse Roses' Made to Play which came with a remix from Claude Von Stroke, ‘Eastern Lights’ on Nic Fanciulli’s Saved and ‘Asylum Sneaker’ on King Unique's Curfew label, plus remixes for The Crookers, Spektrum, Onionz, The Karoshi Brothers, 30HZ and Bassnectar. All this studio output may lead you to believe Magik doesn’t leave his cosy Auckland studio. On the contrary, he’s out every weekend testing these tunes on dancefloors from Russia to Argentina and most points in between. It’s a long way from the early days when Magik rocked his own room at the legendary Manchester nightclub The Hacienda. From there an interest in production developed, and before long he was producing tracks for Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective. Shortly afterwards, he established Shaboom Records, which developed into one of the worlds most respected dance labels, with releases from artists such as UBU, Joeski & Onionz, Fred Everything, Doc Martin and DJ Sneak.
Magik's own music has been released on such influential imprints as Made To Play, Twisted, End Recordings, Saved, Underwater, Paper Recordings, KG Beats and NRK/Honchos. He has completed remixes for Crazy Penis, DJ Sneak, Joey Negro, Q-Burns, Human League, Neon Heights, Spektrum, Nick Holder, Darko Esser, 33HZ, The Bionics, The Crookers and too many more to list here. All in all, it’s a sound resume, proving that the music loving public well and truly believe in Magik.

Re: MASSIVE queens birthday show @ Brown Alley. breaks, tech etc
Yeah nice work getting onto this.
Multi-genre parties don't happen nearly enough these days (outside of the big city-festivals, but they generally aren't very good musical experiences...)
Just wondering how this would work. Assuming Darkbeat will get downstairs, Kompact upstairs.
I can't imagine you would get Deekline all the way over just to play in the little room by the smokers area?
Interesting...

Yo Yo yo yo yo!
Yo!
Any set times yet? Might be taking some newbies to breeeaks and I want them upright, cogniscent and omniscient (to see all acts at the same time) for Deekline at the very least.
Huh?
Also, wonder if Deekline is gonna have any booty shaking dancers on stage..
