Coffee Appreciation
Coffee Appreciation
Ok so who here is a coffee lover ??
Me ive recently been drinking alot more coffee, and love a good espresso in the morning before work and another 1or2 while at work. I am not a morning person, and having a coffee in the morning to give me that bit of pep is needed.
I have been using a plunger for a while, but have been interested in purchasing a full espresso machine. Has anyone got one of these babies and can recommend a good one. I want one that doesnt require to much damn cleaning.
I find drinking coffee is just a great relaxer, even just the process of making the coffee relaxes me greatly, and often take my cup and sit out on the balcony in the sun....

A good coffee is like a slice of heaven.
I love a nice creamy tasting latte for shop-bought coffee. At home I used to do the stove top espresso double shot for a kickstart each day. JOLT!
Now I'm trying to calm myself more often and get off the caffeine high & lows, so I start the day with a Vietnamese coffee. Love the chocolatey flavour - drink it black &hot or chilled on ice. The ground stuff is good n cheap on Victoria St too!

Just because I rock, doesn't mean I'm made of stone.
that is a tasty combination there lyntos maximus.lynt wrote:Coffee everyday. Got one right now, it's the best.
Lynts secret for good coffees
1) Eugine French Patisserie
2) Stuyvesant Lights Rollies
Another thing i like about coffee, is the help it provides during Exam time (very stressful time, as all i do is cram). So I reward myself with a cup of coffee after successfully completeing an hour of full proper studying/cramming. And often at the end of the day ive had 10 coffees, shaking like a frog in a blender, and cannot get to sleep... But at least i did some study, without that little reward i promise myself (relaxing for 5mins with a coffee) i dont think id do much study
i started drinking espressos in paris; they were just so amazingly good, but my teeth went visibly brown.
i just can't do it here, so i'm back to lattés... i find the coffee too bitter and most places find ways to fuck them up, especially when they overheat the milk and make it go all sour.
you gotta find a good place and keep going back, i rection. ici cafe has my barrista of choice.

i read somewhere that coffee helps you soak up information, but avoid it like the plague for your exams, because expressing your self while high on caffeine is a more difficult.yenks wrote:that is a tasty combination there lyntos maximus.

Woah! I was thinking about this before I jumped on MB.C this morning, only because DMC is surrounded by 2 Vietnamese owned butcher and bakery. I've got all the utensils at home to make it like I had in Vietnam, but no idea how to do it.Polecat wrote:A good coffee is like a slice of heaven.

Show me Helen!
^^ my word. Can't stand it when they burn the coffee and you end up with that bitter tasting coffee that is too hot to drink. WTF?
Did anyone watch that world coffee show, when that Sydney world champ barista toured the world - coffee stylez. France was one of the worst places, I think the Swiss took the prize for the best - with Italy obviously not too far behind.

As I was told when I did a cold & hot beverage course, "Coffee is meant to be an experience."Polecat wrote:A good coffee is like a slice of heaven.
Mmmm coffeeeee
What I hate is when you get use to a place that gets the coffee right everytime.
Then you try somewhere else and sometimes like "YUCK!" it stays with you. Really does.

The web of a spider on coffee is the worst.
whereas a spider on hashish is not too shabby
but maybe he just takes alot longer when hes on hash, and really fast when on coffee. hehe
Oh I can show you no worries little buddy!
Have you got the good coffee though? I trip down to Richmond especially to buy the same coffee they serve in VN - good old Trung Nguyên Coffee Company.
1. Put the kettle on but take the water off just before the boil (like with tea so you don't scald the grounds).
2. Add 3 small teaspoons (espresso teaspoon size) of coffee to the bottom of the coffee maker. Slightly heaped spoonfuls, but not too much or it can taste bitter. Tap it gentley to spread the coffee evenly and screw the filter on top.
3. Add a small amount of water to steam the coffee grounds and develop the flavour. I pour in enough water so that is it about 5mm over the top of filter. Put the lid on and leave it for 3-5 minutes.
4. Then come back and top up the water filling it all the way to the top of the coffee maker. Put the lid back on to keep it warm and let it slowly drip though.
5. Add required sugar before drinking it hot, or leave to coool then pour into a glass filled with ice

The only sponsor I've had is Octane Espresso.
They have 2 locations in town McKillop St (near Missing link) and Cnr of Lonsdale and William st.
They take their coffee way to seriously, they even imported and blend their own Hot Choclate and it is the BOMB!
And I got a job at Atomica just so I could access, their coffee for free! Both places are really great.

yeah, rosamond is good.jbs wrote:I rate the little place I've mentioned off Smith St that I don't know the name of opposite (Rosamonds? Rosalinds?) as the best.
@direktor: my rule of thumb on burnt coffee: if it's too hot to sip without blowing on it, then they've burnt the milk.
also, i find it hard to believe that any place could be worse at making coffee than the uk.
I vouch for the NSL coffee mayhem.stovequeen wrote:Go to Postal Hall..

Helen, thanks HEAPS. Gotta get me some coffee from Victoria St now. I bought back half a kilo from Bing Tan but neglected to drink it proper styles.
I would die without my daily coffees
I've had two this morning- macchiato with latte chaser. Defo up for another as soon as I can get out of this clinic- maybe 2.
I've said it before:
My fave 3 joints for coffee- Ray, Small Block, Atomica. Mule on Sydney Rd also kills it with encouraging regularity (and does the best lemon and ricotta muffins on Fridays as well)

Its hands down the best cafe I've been to in Melbourne IMO.valuetime wrote:yeah, rosamond is good.jbs wrote:I rate the little place I've mentioned off Smith St that I don't know the name of opposite (Rosamonds? Rosalinds?) as the best.

They just don't do anything wrong at all.
My pleasure I need to get myself some too to take to China. Look for the boxed coffee (500g) which has 2 X 250g packets in it. This one has the Arabica, carrimor and cherry? Something like that... but the 3 ingredients to get the same taste as in VN.lynt wrote:Helen, thanks HEAPS. Gotta get me some coffee from Victoria St now. I always take a coffee maker on holidays with me - be it the Mocha pot or the VN style filter.

I did a coffee training day with that guy, Paul someone or other, we were teaching suburban idiots how to use their home espresso machines.Direktor wrote:^^ my word. Can't stand it when they burn the coffee and you end up with that bitter tasting coffee that is too hot to drink. WTF?

He was a complete tosser and introduced himself to me as Paul, Barista of the Year 2004. Seriously, thats what he said. I had to spend the whole day with the fool and it was painful.

That is easy to beat I think! Sure it is probably the best you can buy at the supermarket, but when I drink espresso I prefer to get beans in a favourite blend/flavour from somewhere like Jaspers or Grinders.drew wrote:lavazza coffee is the BOMB...its pretty hard to beat....use it at work...
