If only. Here is the official Nintendo statement on WII:

ntroducing… Wii.

As in "we."

While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasises this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/...9u2VmCZRDTV1y8N

Seriously... WTF!!!!
I'll be calling it the Revolution.

PS: WHERE IS TWILIGHT PRINCESS.... AAAAAAARRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the only language that associates with which comes to mind is french...
It looks like they spent alot of time naming that console for nothing, it will always be known as the revolution

if you think about it, the "xbox" sounds sexual, and also resides in the crotch area. Or the "PlayStation"...

Nintendo are just tampering with the formula :P

almost considering investing in a console... Haven't had one since I bought my N64 in '97, thought I might save my self from going out over the winter and just stay in and play some games. Dunno though, see how I go

OK so E3 has started in the US (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) and Sony has announced a release date and pricing for the PS3.

Release is scheduled for November 17th, with two packages available for purchase. The cheaper one is $500US (about $650AUD) and the more expensive one is $600US (About $750AUD). The only difference between the two is the size of the hard drives - a 30gb one in the cheaper one, and a 60gb one in the pricier box. I have a feeling that there will be more to the packages than this, however.

Oh, and the controller?

It's gone from the silver boomerang:
Image

To something much more similar to the Dual Shock controller:

Thank christ for that.

i'm getting a Wii...predicted RRP $250US...$379AUD?

New star wars game (for the controller, sabre-thingy), new zelda, new mario, metroid, nba live 2007 + retro-gaming via an itunes-like interface to download old Nintendo titles from all generations without piss-farting around with cartridges, discs and other proprietory formats... :P

what more could you want?!

yay Sony :teef:

I too have heard the Revolution (fuck this "wii" shit) will be cheap from the getgo, so I may pick one up, depending on titles. Hopefully the 360 will come down in price by then too. Don't give a shit about ps3.

That too is my major beef with Nintendo. They just don't have enough solid titles. However, the GOOD games that they put out far surpass most others, and I believe they are expanding majorly on the amount of 3rd party developers on board.

I still think the playstation 3 will be the one to kick ass. It is a gruntier system than all of the other consoles and it has the big advantage of having a built in blu ray player. For those of us with HD panels :) this is going to look spectacular through HDMI.
Not to mention when movies start to ship and eventually end up at our local dvd stores these are going to look so sweet in 1080p.

i cant see the ps3 being as good as its hyped to be- im not saying it wont be gold, but not as gold. they have only just got a working prototype and its meant to be in production in a few months. i find that hard to believe... blame blu ray. they have had so many fucking problems with it its not funny. also the processors floating point performance has been way over rated. anyway, its all just advertising - it will be interesting to see how it actually turns out.

diode...you got a 1080p display thats not a computer monitor? if so where did you get it? you lucky sod. the rest of aus will have to wait, unless you buy a plasma (yuck!). also HDMI dosent carry more video bandwidth than DVi it just also carries a multi channel audio siginal. HDMI type B is basically just dual DVi in a slimmer cable + audio, type a is based off old skool DVi

personally i dont really think its that great - unless you run everything (video and audio) through some type of receiver...meh

yeh i just saw 10mins into the live press conference, with Miyamoto playing the drums on the controller and being an orchestral conducter...looked kinda wierd.

The constant motion and usage of the controller looks paraletic, I hope they have an option to turn it off, i'm not a big fan of using my shoulders to play Mario.

Will upgrade as soon as these and the PS3 are released though.

what are peoples thoughts on the HD DVD player for the xbox360? i must say ive always been a fan of HD over Blu Ray as a standard, but not with this thing.

Its good that from 2007 all x360 CPUs will be 65nm - they havent released specs yet but i wonder if how much they will be beefing it up to compete with the ps3. you would be spewing if you got one this year and next year its quieter, more efficient and more powerful.

time will tell

Ten bucks says it will have an option to turn it off, or they will release a second type of controller that doesn't rely on motion sensors. Still, I think they were just trying to show off its capabilities. When the guy was play Zelda, it hardly used the motion sensors at all, just enough to prove useful.

Word, and for the record, for the first time since I got my Atari 2600 in 1988 (I still remember the day quite well), I'm game free. None on PC, no consoles owned by me.

yes, I think that is the case when the early adopters come in from the rain waiting in line for a box.

$1000 is just too insane for a console. They better hope they get free games with that ticket.

know what you mean! I just could not do the multi-hour game immersion anymore. (I still own a PS2, N64 and DS - but they haven't been turned on for 3 years.)

the only games I've bothered with recently are:
* san andreas on the ps2, and to some extent gt4. the ps2 is the first console I've owned since the genesis. actually I owned a dreamcast as well, but that was mostly used to run debian, not games. ;)
* half-life 2, because actually having to stop and think et al in a game is cool, and the graphics and physics were incredibly lush for the time (i got an amd64 and a top-of-the-line radeon when I got it).

aside from that, I don't really bother.

I reckon they'll drop the price after 2 weeks. Playstation has got a wealthier market audiece who would be will ing to paying that much, so why not? Then straight after, they'll drop the price so real people can buy it. Not that I care, i'll be playing my Wii at that time.

I seriously doubt it, they are loosing money on it at that price anyway + there's no way Sony would drop the price before xmas when they launched it in November!!!
