Aussie gift ideas..

Post by ADD_Boy »

Hey all! :smt006

A friend of mine is going back to Ireland for a bit ..

She's after some Aussie gift ideas (non tacky types)

One idea was Aussie wines. Since I don't drink wine @ all I was wondering if anyone could suggest any good Aussie wines &or other gift ideas...

Cheers! :smt023

ADD boy - Katnook is good, can be pretty pricy tho. Aussie wines from Adelaide Hills are usually pretty good - Sauv Blanc especially and Pinot.

If going for Victorian wine, prolly best to stick to Shiraz. We don't really do a good lighter red.

Otherwise anything from Margaret River in WA is also pretty safe.

Brokenwood whites are nice and resonable, Wynns Connawarra Shiraz is cheap ($15) and nice and their Riesling is also really good. And my favourite, which is quite pricey ($50) is Mt Langi Ghiran shiraz.

Wine = :smt055

Hope this helps. Aussie wine is great.

Yeah, or a toy one, or choc bar one.

My gf walked into a pet store and tried to get me a real one for my bday.

Didn't work.

IMO not exactly true, I reckon There are some great Pinots coming out of the mornington peninsular of a lighter style. Red Hill estate is a good pinot ( and there Chardonnay in second to none in its price range). Also Kings creek Pinot is nice for a lighter style red.

edit- Also Stoniers Pinot is awesome, maybe a little more $$ than the others mentioned

totally agree on the Pinot Noir call there. Stonier's Point is great, as is Bass Phillip.

there's also some good Pinot Gris being made around Dromana.

Yeah I was wondering if someone was going to pull be up on that. I thought exactly that when i wrote it!!

Vic is better known as a shiraz and chardy region, but the Pinots are good and that Stonier pinot is a fantastic wine, so yeah, i was wrong and freely admit it.
