BEATS WORKING // 4TH YEAR BIRTHDAY // SAT 21.01.05
OMG!!!!... that has to have been the fastest 4 years we've ever experienced!
4 years of parties, 4 years of music and most importantly, 4 years of devoted friends. From our humble origins at the International Lounge side-room, to the Laundry, Brown Alley and onto the Mercat X Hotel - the BW crew have been at the forefront of the Melbourne breaks community.
From Earthcore, Advent*Jah and Rainbow Serpent to guest spots at Fractured, Revolver and Lounge - it certainly has been a memorable time for us, and we hope it has been for you too!
Obliveus, Scotrod, Hans-D.C, Direkt and Feigan cordially invite you and your crew to come down and help us celebrate this momentous occasion.
Mr Blueprint will be back on deck following his tour of duty in the UK, so if you missed him at the Espie on NYD - now's your chance to see the man in action (big ups the Blueprint!).
We'd also like to take this time to thank each and every one of the performers and punters who've enabled BW to reach this milestone.
So spread the word, and spread the love - Beats Working is four years old!

Live fast - yeah live too bloody fast sometimes; die young ... Die Young? No ... die old.
Let's see...
4 years = 48 monthly parties, 3 Earthcore appearances, 3 Rainbow Serpent appearances, 3 Kryal Castles, 2 Bendigo appearances, 2 boat parties, 1 Out of Order versus, 2 Fractured versus, more house functions than can be counted on two hands and so many great memories. Probably missed a few, too.
Thanks everyone, it's been one hell of a ride.

Yeah, Con was there with all his mates...they got messed up something fierce. The best thing about the first one was that Scott did the promo for it announcing to the Bendigo massive that DJ Obliveus (USA) was playing. So all these peeps showed up thinking there was going to be some black guy playing hip hop/rnb. Everyone in Bendigo knew Scotrod as a commercial DJ, not the breaks legend he is today. Some chick went up to him while I was playing and asked when the American was going on. He said, "That's him." She said I wasn't what she was expecting. YEAH!!!Direktor wrote:I was at the second one with Joh... And I believe ol' schooler CoN was in attendance at the first ever one!obliveus wrote: Our first 2 BW's were in Bendigo of all places. Actually, to add to the shows...
Scotty Sleuth did 3 BW's at Planet Afrik in Collingwood before I moved to Oz. I'm pretty sure Ransom, Brewster and John Idem played those with him. If memory serves me correctly, the final one was supposed to be Phil K, but that didn't transpire. Scotty can elaborate.

Look what I found when you type in "Scotty Sleuth" into Google:
Beats Working: Dedicated Breakbeat Shenanigans
Tuesday September 5, 2000 - Written by: The Scene
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Melbourne's brand new weekly breaks night.
From Rare Funk and Old School Hip Hop, to Nu Skool Breaks, Twisted House and
Drum and Bass.
IT'S ALL GOOD.
Last week saw the opening night down at Planet Afrik on Smith St Fitzroy.
John Idem started things off with his collection original Funk 7 inch's,
"rare as rocking horse shit". Scott Sleuth then picked up the pace with a Nu
Skool Breaks set, and Brewster B rocked an intimate yet mad for it crew of
Breakbeat hooligans to top off the night. Even Amy the door girl kept
running back and forth from her desk to the dance floor to catch a piece of
the Brewster.
This weeks line up consists of residents John Idem and Scott Sleuth plus
guest DJ, Melbourne's king of the broken beat, DJ RANSOM.
$7 to get in, $5 with a pass.
It's free before ten with cheap drink specials.
BEATS WORKING....SHOW US YOUR MAN BOOBYS...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice how it refers to Brewster as 'The Brewster'. Goldmine.

Good ol Scotty Sleuth.
See what happens when I stay away from the internet for a week?
Bastards........
In fact, I reckon the old "sleuth" jokes pop up in the BW forum thread every bloody anniversary!!! hardy bloody har har!!!
By the way, the street press ads back then said "dedicated breakfast shenanigans" instead of "breakbeat shenanigans", so people thought the first couple of BW's were recoveries....
At least that's what I told myself when no one showed up....
